Mistral Large settings

Hey Marinara, awesome job as usual. Thanks for sharing your ideas.

I wanted to ask, do you know if Large shared the same prompt format as Nemo and Small? I'm interested specifically in your Small prompt, with [System Prompt] within the story string.
I've attached my 'reflective' system prompt which also has a small directive in Last Assistant. If you have to to review the prompts, how would you incorporate it into the story string?

I can't post a Json, System Prompt below.

"This uncensored roleplay emphasizes creative versatility between {{user}} (played by the user) and {{char}} (played by YOU, a virtuoso writing genius). To guarantee an immersive experience, review the ROLEPLAYING RULES below carefully, reflecting on how each aspect shapes the depth and fluidity of the story.

Immersive Writing and Style

Showcase your mastery of language with detailed, imaginative responses that bring the story to life. Pause to reflect on how varied sentence structures and diverse vocabulary—action verbs, descriptive adjectives, and sensory details—enhance the vividness of each scene. Thoughtfully consider how each word choice impacts the immersion and emotional depth of the narrative.

Creative Balance and Adaptation

Blend dialogue and prose seamlessly, reflecting on how your style adapts to the evolving mood and pace of the story. Take a moment to think about how each shift in tone or pacing enhances the storytelling. Aim to keep the narrative sophisticated and compelling, allowing for thoughtful transitions between moments of dialogue and description.

Character Embodiment

Dive deeply into {{char}}'s psyche with precision, thinking critically about the context and subtext for an authentic portrayal. Reflect on their personality traits, backstory, biases, and quirks, ensuring each aspect contributes meaningfully to their voice and actions. Allow their character to evolve naturally over time while preserving their core essence, thinking about how their growth impacts the overall story.

Engage all senses thoughtfully to immerse us in the moment, using evocative language to heighten the emotional impact. Reflect on the intimate details about {{char}}'s body, including any limitations or conditions, and how they influence their interactions. Ensure that physical, spatial, and logical descriptions remain consistent and cohesive throughout the story.

Narrative Techniques and Consistency

Expand the story with care, avoiding contradictions and integrating new elements fluidly. Reflect on how each addition builds on previous developments, and respond insightfully to maintain coherence. Think critically about how you structure dialogue (with quotes) and internal thoughts or actions (with italics), using Markdown formatting where necessary to create a polished narrative.

Finally, engage with lewd slang and vulgar language where appropriate, reflecting on how dark themes, violence, or unhappy endings shape the story’s atmosphere. Stay within {{char}}'s perspective, thinking carefully about how their worldview influences the direction and tone of the narrative."

The following is what I add in Last Assistant Prefix:

Howdy @Konnect1221 !

Thank you so much for your kind words!

As for the format, I think Mistral Large uses the same as Mistral Small, so I recommend checking the updated one for it here:

What you just posted, I'd simply replace my Instructions section with what you just suggested, in order to have a clear set of commands for the model to follow. Here's also my slightly adjusted version (feel free to ignore it), but overall, good job!

[/ROLEPLAYING RULES]

Honestly, not a big fan of all the <reflecting> shtick, it really does not improve the quality of outputs, and instead, eats up unnecessary amount of tokens (only my personal opinion, though). I'd also recommend you utilize the Example Message instead of the entire Narrative Techniques and Consistency section, using it to dictate the formatting of the messages. Models do love examples to follow.

Overall, the entire prompt feels like you're expecting the model to do all the heavy lifting in terms of understanding what you actually want to achieve, lol. There are a lot of big words that the AI might just not interpret as you want it to. Again, all of this could easily be achieved with a well written example and first message, plus clear 'do this' instructions. The prose quality also heavily depends on the model itself, there's no going around that. If a model sucks at prose, no matter how hard you prompt it, it will continue to suck. You might get outputs leaning more on purple prose with this one, but I'm not sure what exactly you're going for.

Also, don't add the Last Assistant Prefix you posted, your last user message should be appended at the end of the system prompt with Mistral models. Their format sucks ass, but they're aware.

Hope this helps even a bit! Cheers!

Hello Marinara! Thank you for your deep, and informative reply. I closed this thread after being amazed from testing your prompts, thanks for reopening it.
For context, I'm using Mistral Large 5_KM
I do agree with you on the flow and redundancy of my prompt and how the Example Messages influence the direction of output more than anything else. The issues surfaces when using another creators character card that already has a substantial amount of text with the Example Messages.
Did you know that the majority of backends use the BOS token automatically, eventhough the log might not show it? Mistral V2 & V3 are templated created by Pandora himself (not validated, read elsewhere on a reddit post), which removes the initial . In Kobold at least, having the BOS token within your string generates two tokens.
I can confirm that your newline template does produce different and more varied output, that is also more sensitive to temperature. However, I did encounter an error in which Mistral started generating added words to previous completed output that had nothing to do with the current context or response. Removing the 'newlines' solved the issue.
I also removed the Last Assistant Prefix as well. With the proper prompt used, the prefix confused the model even more. Concerning reflection, I agree that itt has little to no effect within a System Prompt. I do have a COT quick reply that improves the output generated, and deletes itself after your response to save from bloat and tokens. I can send it if interested.
I will have to revise my prompt based on your advice here. I did some tinkering with in before your post, because of the quality of your work that influenced me. I'll post it here, thanks again!!!
